I was born out in the Bedfordshire countryside, Vincent, near the famous downs where the gliders take off from, and my childhood memories are filled with the excitement of picnics on the grass as an array of beautifully diverse craft passed by overhead. Almost a surreal experience. Sadly, I've never had a flight in one, and I one day must, as to me, it must be one of the closest feelings to flying like a bird.

@SOUL AFLAME: I've had a ride in a glider once, and it was a very pleasant experiment, I can tell you that! No headset, only the sound of the wind (and the variometer, so you don't have to look at it... but that's a different story). I have to agree, it has to be the closest thing we can do if we want to feel like a bird. I hope I can get my glider licence one day, but now I'm busy getting my commercial, mutli-engine and IFR licence, so there's not much time for yet another licence as of now. Thanks for your comment!
