Un stade la nuit...Posted by Vincent Bertrand (Montréal, Canada) on 24 July 2008 in Architecture and Portfolio. Une icône de Montréal, le mal-aimé stade olympique. Cet endroit, comme c'est souvent le cas ailleurs, se transforme radicalement la nuit.

Marion from Nanaimo, BC, CanadaA really interesting shot. Wow what incredible architect. 24 Jul 2008 5:48am @Marion: A French architect built it for 1976 Montreal olympic games. The construction has been a total mess, and the mast was not done in time for the games... Lots of Montrealers would like this thing to be blown-up, but I don't agree. It really is a great icon for the city. Thanks for your comment, as always appreciated. @Rags: But its future is unsure... grouser from Ludlow, United KingdomThe lack of colour and dramatic lighting accentuates the energetic curves of the building. Nice pic. 24 Jul 2008 10:05am @grouser: The crazy years of concrete : everything is grey. Thanks for your comment. Simon from Montreal, CanadaC'était en 76 les olympiques... en 67 c'était l'expo ;) 24 Jul 2008 11:30am @Simon: Quel lapsus... merci de me ramener à l'ordre. @Pep Mir: We might be in it... who knows! Thanks for stopping by. @yiannis krikis: Thank you. @Eleftheria!: Thank you. Paco Díaz from Palma de Mallorca, SpainIt looks like a Santiago Calatrava's intervention. I was in the stade in the eighties, and I remember it different, of course. 24 Jul 2008 4:51pm @Paco Díaz: I've just taken a look at Calatrava's work, and I see your point. I sure can see some similarities, but there's a lot of difference, too. @Cia: Thanks! Emilio Garcia from Pleasanton, United StatesGreat night shot of an equally impressive building. Thanks for the background on its construction and subsequent controversy. 24 Jul 2008 6:25pm @Emilio Garcia: Thank you Emilio. You have no idea how the construction of that stadium has been a mess. Workers would steal entire truck of concrete to go build themselves summer house up North. Now try to imagine the cost of that, and the enourmous delay it took to complete that monster. And this is only the tip of the iceberg... Anyhow, it's there now so why not take advantage of a great photo opportunity? Thanks for stopping by. Stéphane from Bruxelles, BelgiumTrès beau et élancé. 24 Jul 2008 6:58pm @Stéphane: Merci Stéphane. Ken McCoy from Orlando-Daytona Beach, FL, United StatesYou've got it framed so it almost looks like a spaceship - esp with the lights at the top. Nice shot! 24 Jul 2008 7:51pm @Ken McCoy: Thank you Ken. What an odd building, that is! Did you know it's the highest inclined tower in the world? Ah! well... Damon Schreiber from Toronto, CanadaBrilliant image. You've captured it with great clarity. I walked around the stadium last summer - it really is an impressive building. 24 Jul 2008 10:16pm @Damon Schreiber: It's impressive how someone agreed to let a guy put so much concrete in a single place!! Nevertheless, it is a great monument, eventhough there's controversy about what to do with it. Thanks for stopping by and for your lovely words. Michael from TX, United StatesAwesome shot. Very futuristic looking. I know that I am a total geek, but it reminds me alot of a Cylon Basestar. 25 Jul 2008 2:58am @Michael: Thanks Michael. Battlestar Galactica really exists then. @One: Merci. dj.tigersprout from San Bruno, United Statesstunning shot! beautiful architecture and a marvelous capture of it! amazing! 25 Jul 2008 5:35am @dj.tigersprout: Thank you again for your kind words. damian from Murowana Goślina, Polandwouw! oustanding picture. i can't find appropriate words to say how much i like it 25 Jul 2008 12:11pm @damian: Thank you @bluechameleon: Thanks a lot. Peter Mannfolk from Landskrona, SwedenExellent shot Vincent, simply excellent! /Peter 26 Jul 2008 6:43pm @Peter Mannfolk: Thank you very much Peter. Barbara from Florida, United StatesIncredible architecture and amazing night shot. 28 Jul 2008 4:49am @Barbara: Thank you Barbara for your very rewarding words. I think it's a bizarre, but indeed interesting piece of architecture. |
